Human-Computer Interaction by Using Neural Correlates to Better Understand Situational Task Demands

Cognitive ergonomics is a scientific discipline that studies, evaluates, and designs tasks, jobs, products, environments and systems and how they interact with humans and their cognitive abilities. It is defined by the International Ergonomics Association as concerned with mental processes, such as perception, memory, reasoning, and motor response, as they affect interactions among humans and other elements of a system. CE is responsible for how work it’s done in the mind, meaning, the quality of work is dependent on the persons understanding of situations. Situations could include the goals, means, and constraints of work. The relevant topics include mental workload, decision-making, skilled performance, human-computer interaction, human reliability, work stress and training as these may relate to human-system design. Cognitive ergonomics studies cognition in work and operational settings, in order to optimize human well-being and system performance.

Treatment of Thin Endometrium with Hysteroscopic Autologous Platelet Rich Plasma Injection

In infertility treatments, one of the most hardest problem is thin endometrium which is neccessary affect implantation. Recently, autologous Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injection has been prefered with catheter injection into the uterin cavity. The results are conflict between the series. Our patients diagnosed with thin endometrium failed to respond medical treatment. This case series reports on three women which has thin endometrium and history of recurrent implantation failure. We defined a new technique for PRP injection into the endometrium with hysteroscopy. Following the hysteroscopic PRP treatment, three patients that previously failed In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) performed IVF and achieved pregnancy. This is the first case report to define this technique in the literature and get pregnancy.

Spirituality, Culture, and the Process of Assessment in Recovery

Background: The narrow perspective of the medical/psychiatric model of care doesn’t adequately consider advocacy groups in its concept of community health care. The central issue to positive mental health, and the resolution of life problems, such as alcohol or other drug challenges, gambling, abuse, etc., is partly vested in a robust recovery management system that is sensitive to the spiritual and cultural needs of consumers. The continued indifference in clinical assessment protocols of ethnic and cultural identity is a significant variable that impacts a person’s concept of belonging and further defines a person’s relationship to the dominant cultural standards of health. The mental health professions appear reluctant to embrace a program of healing that includes people with the “disease” who believe that long term recovery from their “disorder” is not just biological and psychological but also communal and spiritual. This historical neglect of recovery-oriented supportive communities is one of the helping professional’s greatest weakness.

As anticholinergic medications have been observed to be associated with delirium, this association has led to the development of the Anticholinergic Cognitive Burden scale (ACB). Our objective is to determine whether a high ACB score is associated with delirium within an Appalachian population in a West Virginia statewide referral center. Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, 174 patients 65 years or older were assessed with the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM) upon arrival to a general medicine unit at J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. The ACB scores were analyzed with reference to presence of delirium per the CAM. Subsequently, ACB scores were compared at two time points— arrival onto the inpatient unit and on the date of discharge. Results: There was no significant association between increased ACB score and presence of delirium. There was no difference in ACB score between patients with and without delirium (p=0.855). When comparing ACB scores on date of CAM versus on date of discharge, there was no significant difference between patients with or without delirium (p=0.467). Conclusion: There was no significant association between a high ACB score and a positive CAM at the time of initial assessment within the limitations of the study. Additionally, there was no change in anticholinergic burden upon patient discharge based on ACB scores.

Video Gaming Impact on Veteran Stress Disorders and Treatment: A Review

Video games have potential benefits for military personnel and veterans while abroad and at home. On deployment, gaming helps active military personnel decompress, eases the troubles of separating from family and friends, and builds a sense of community. At home, video games offer a way to escape posttraumatic experiences and deal with civilian reintegration. Video gaming presents an opportunity for military personnel and veterans to relieve traumatic stress and cope through comradery. Thus, it becomes important to understand veteran video gaming behavior and to optimize this modality to help with transitioning back to civilian life with the many veteran specific health sequelae deployments may have caused.
